The Moroccan SMEs Observatory's primary objective is to contribute to the reflection on inherent challenges in the national productive fabric by providing key indicators related to the demographics and economic and financial health of enterprises, especially SMEs, which constitute a significant component of the Moroccan economy. Its role involves offering an enlightened and objective perspective, enabling decision-makers to better grasp the dynamics and challenges shaping the entrepreneurial landscape, thus facilitating well-informed policymaking for sustainable SME development within our country.
The implementation of the Observatory stems from an extensive collaborative process, initiated in 2014 with various partners and intensified after the signing of data exchange agreements in 2017 with Bank Al-Maghrib, the General Tax Directorate (DGI), the National Social Security Fund (CNSS), and the Moroccan Office of Industrial and Commercial Property (OMPIC). It's worth noting that this framework is constantly evolving, reflecting the ongoing commitment to enhance mechanisms for collecting, sharing, and analyzing information related to the national economic fabric.
SMEs play a crucial role in the economic growth dynamics of the Kingdom. They generate employment opportunities, stimulate innovation, and contribute to regional development.
Their significant presence in the economic fabric underscores the urgent need to support their expansion and facilitate their growth to ensure a competitive and inclusive economy.
However, these companies often face significant challenges, including accessing financing, heightened competition, and constraints related to resources and skills. To address these challenges, it is imperative to have a comprehensive view of the productive landscape, supported by reliable, detailed, and regularly updated data.
The Moroccan SMEs Observatory actively engages in partnerships both nationally (ministerial departments, INPPLC, etc.) and internationally (World Bank, Alliance for Financial Inclusion, International Monetary Fund, etc.). These fruitful collaborations strengthen the Observatory's mission by fostering knowledge exchange and stimulating innovation.
Thanks to these synergies, the Observatory becomes a major player in promoting the growth and competitiveness of SMEs.
